It is anticipated that the Zinkfabrik Altenberg (Zinc Factory) will remain closed until 2023. The following blog has been set up in order to provide information about the building measures and the work on the new permanent exhibition and also to appeal for participation and to enter into dialogue: www.zinkfabrikaltenberg.blog (the blog is only available in German language)
Numerous measures have already been taken. The former permanent exhibition has been dismantled. The main features for the new permanent exhibition which will be opened following the refurbishment have already been established. Its main focus will be the people in the industrial society. How did and how does industry affect their life and work? And what will it look like in the future? There will also be more opportunities for interaction so that visitors will be able to do things themselves.
Via the museum’s Blog the LVR-Industriemuseum wants to enable people to take a look behind the scenes at Zinkfabrik Altenberg (Zinc Factory) and also to present the everyday tasks surrounding the refurbishment and the re-organisation of the museum. For example, it shows how the ten-metre high steam hammer weighing 53 tons is moved or how the impressive steam locomotive is transported. Staff introduce their favourite items from the former permanent exhibition and recall particular incidents. The team of curators also lets readers share in the planning for the new permanent exhibition – from the concept to the set-up.
The blog also provides information on what is happening at Zinkfabrik Altenberg (Zinc Factory) despite the refurbishment measures on the premises and gives details of events. Last but not least, the blog should be a place for communication and exchange.
