The guided tour with machine demonstration combines a visit to the mansion and to the “Hohe Fabrik” (High Mill) representing the work and living environments around 1800 and brings alive a fascinating epoch of political and economic upheaval. Highlights are the demonstration of the first spinning machines in the world in the factory and the impressive Garden Room in the mansion.

3. Historical Walk from Lower Cromford to Upper Cromford

4. “At a well-tended table” – An Afternoon about Cocoa

“Johann Gottfried Brügelmann received us extremely courteously at a carefully well-tended table and whilst we were drinking cocoa he described to us how his factory had developed.” That is what Salomé von Gélieu wrote in her diary in 1787.

Enjoy personally prepared cocoa at a festively laid table and learn a great deal which is worth knowing about the history of this luxury beverage and life in the Cromford mansion.

5. Spinning in the 18th century

Carding, drawing, twisting – try for yourself the work steps needed to produce thread from raw cotton. During the subsequent machine demonstration you will experience how these work-steps were mechanised in the 18th century.
