We want you to feel comfortable at the museum and ensure that your stay in the St. Antony-Hütte (Ironworks) is tailored to your requirements. The museum is has few obstacles and offers many options. Please tell the museum staff if you require assistance.

For persons with restricted mobility and wheelchair users

At the St. Antony-Hütte (Ironworks) mobile ramps bridge the few low steps in the exhibition. One section of the exhibition can be visited at ground level via a second entrance. In the listed timber-framed building a stair-lift also ensures accessibility to the first floor. A loan wheelchair is available there to continue the visit. The industriearchäologischer Park (industrial archaeological park) also has few obstacles. Folding seats can be borrowed. When folded these can also be used like a walking stick. A disabled toilet is also available. At a distance of approximately 30m there is a marked parking space for disabled persons.

Further Information:

  • All rooms and facilities are accessible without steps or with maximum one step.
  • All openings/doors have a minimum width of 70 cm.
  • The marked parking space for disabled persons has an area of 320 cm x 500 cm.
  • The bus stop “Antony Hütte” is approximately 20m away.
  • The path from the carpark and from the bus stop is easily walkable or negotiable.
  • Access to the building does not involve any steps (door threshold 2 cm).
  • The height of the ticket counter is 95 cm.
  • Access to the exhibition rooms on the ground floor is via one 20 cm step or via a second entrance (door threshold 2cm)
  • The exhibition rooms on the upper floor are accessed via a stairway or a stair-lift.
  • All openings/doors are at least 90cm wide (exception: smallest opening in the exhibition on the first floor: 86 cm).
  • The pathways through the industrial archaeological park have a maximum gradient of 6% and are easily walkable or negotiable.
  • Mobile seats and loan wheelchairs are available.
  • The exhibits can be viewed either standing or seated.

WC for disabled persons is available.

  • The WC is located on the ground floor.
  • Movement area next to the toilet (width x depth) is on the left 30 cm x 71 cm and on the right 113 cm x 71 cm. On the right-hand side is a handhold which folds upwards.
  • The wash basin can be lowered to a limited extent.

For deaf persons and persons with hearing disabilities

Our museum offers Sunday guided tours on specific dates for deaf persons and persons with hearing disabilities. The tours last approximately 90 minutes. Please consult our event calendar for the date of the next such tour.

The guided tours are translated into German sign language by a sign language interpreter. The sign language interpreter is paid by the Landschaftsverband Rheinland. The normal museum entrance fee applies. At the St. Antony-Hütte (Ironworks) there is a reduced rate for severely disabled persons (4 €), the entrance charge for the Eisenheim Museum is 2.50 €.

Deaf persons can, of course, book individual guided tours with a sign language interpreter at a time to suit them during the opening hours of the museum. We will organise a sign language interpreter for you. The cost of the sign language interpreter is paid by the LVR. The fee for a guided tour is 50 € plus the museum entrance fee. Museum entrance fee (group price for severely disabled persons: 3.50 € per person).

Multi-media-guide in sign language

Persons with a hearing disability can make an individual tour of the St. Antony-Hütte (Ironworks) and the indusriearchäologischer ParK (industrial-archaeological park) with a multi-media guide. The guide through the oldest ironworks in the Ruhr region is started by simply pressing a button. On the multi-media display a sign language interpreter explains the topics in the museum in German sign language. The use of the multi-media guide is free of charge.

Further information:

  • In the event of an acoustic alarm (e.g. fire alarm) in the exhibition rooms there is a visible clearly discernible flashing signal.
  • Written information on the exhibits is also available.
  • There are no inductive hearing systems.

For visually impaired and blind persons

For visually impaired and blind persons

The museum premises and the building do not have a guide system for blind persons. We therefore recommend that visually impaired and blind persons are accompanied. Assistance dogs are permitted.

Upon request it is possible to book a guided tour for a group of visually impaired persons and blind persons. During this guided tour we offer the opportunity to touch as many exhibits as possible. The tour lasts around 90 minutes.

The fee for the guided tour is 50 € (school groups 45 €). The museum entrance fee also applies. At the St. Antony-Hütte (Ironworks) there is a reduced group rate for severely disabled persons (3.50 € per person), the entrance fee for the Eisenheim Museum is 2.50 €.

The programme should be arranged at least two weeks in advance if possible.

An audio-guide can be borrowed free of charge at the St. Antony-Hütte (Ironworks) upon presentation of an identity card.

Further information:

  • • Outside there are no easily visible or tactile path boundaries.
  • • In the building and in the industrial archaeological park there are no visual high-contrast or tactile floor indicators.
  • • Rooms, corridors and stairs are brightly illuminated dazzle-free.
  • • On the walkways and in the rooms there are no obstacles, e.g. protruding objects or tripping points.
  • • There are no carrousel doors or revolving doors.
  • • Doors and door frames are offset in high contrast.
  • • Exhibits contrast visually with the surroundings and are well illuminated.
  • • The written information is easily legible and in high contrast.
  • • There is no information in Braille or prism script.
  • • An App with further information and a multi-media guide are available.
  • • Reading aids can be borrowed.

For persons with cognitive impairments

All guided tours and programmes can be adjusted to the needs of school classes and groups of persons with learning difficulties. They are carried out in simple, comprehensible language. The guided tours and programmes should be arranged at least two weeks prior to the planned date if possible.

Further information:

  • Name and logo of the institution are clearly recognisable from outside.
  • The cash desk is immediately visible from the entrance.
  • The end point of the path is in sight or there are signs available at constantly visible intervals.
  • The exhibits are presented so that they are visible.
  • There is no information available in simple language.
  • Mainly photographs are exhibited on the first floor. The exhibits in the industrial- archaeological park are also explained in films.

This is a co-operation project sponsored by the Bundesministerium für Wirtschaft und Energie (Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy) , the Deutsches Seminar für Tourismus (DSFT) Berlin e. V. and the Verein Tourismus für Alle Deutschland e.V. - NatKo.
