The Textilfabrik Cromford (Textile Mill) offers individual visitors and small groups who want to visit the museum without prior booking a whole range of options to undertake a tour of discovery. In the “Hohen Fabrik” (High Mill) dating from 1797 you can experience a demonstration of how cotton yarn was produced 200 years ago. The machines in operation respond to all the senses and demonstrate not only the yarn production process but also give an insight into the conditions under which the men, women and children employed here once worked.
In the baroque mansion next to the factory, an audio-guide accompanies visitors around this jewel of early industrial entrepreneurial culture in the Rhineland. Spoken by actors, the life, work and living environment of one of the richest industrialist families of the time come alive. On Sundays we offer regular guided tours around the permanent exhibition in the factory and the mansion without prior booking. Especially for accompanied children, there are also regular public activity-oriented tours “From raw cotton to cotton thread” on Sundays.
