Accessible Museum for everyone

Options for Persons with Disability

Hands detailed view

Inclusion has been a concern and normal practice at the LVR-Industriemuseums right from the start and not just since the United Nations Convention on Disability Rights came into force in 2009. It is very important to us to recognise barriers and avoid them in order to make access to the museums and participation in what they offer as easy as possible for all visitors. This is evident from the layout of our buildings, the exhibitions and the programme options.

Whether persons with physical or mental disabilities or learning difficulties, person with a migration background, from disadvantaged groups, very young or old persons, they can all feel well catered for at our museums.

A particular characteristic of our museums – former factories with a great degree of authenticity – is that they engage all the senses. Seeing, hearing, feeling, fingering, touching, smelling and consequently experiencing things in their entirety, trying things out for oneself, all this is like an adventure, promoting creativity and generating long-lasting knowledge and memories.

However: Not every museum can offer everything for everyone all the time and therefore we focus on specific options within the museums. Upon request we try to react flexibly and facilitate a great deal for you.
