Masse und Klasse

History(s) of plastics

Since the second half of the 20th century, it has been impossible to imagine everyday life without plastics. Inseparably linked to industrial mass production, they accompany technical developments and open up unprecedented freedom of design for designers. Many plastic objects have become part of the collective memory and have found their way into museums. The exhibition is dedicated to various aspects of this material: from cheap substitute and mass product to high-tech component, design icon or ecological nuisance.

Probiert? Kapiert!

The new interactive exhibition for kids and teens

In our former factories, employees had to face many challenges: How does one manage the transport of heavy materials? Which power sources can be used to get the machines running? What are requirements for a successful collaboration? In this exhibition, visitors actively aim to master the same challenges. You can try out everything – and get it!

Opening in spring 2023

Kraftwerk Ermen & Engels (Power Plant), Engelskirchen and Textilfabrik Cromford (Textile Mill), Ratingen

Coming to further museums of the Industriemuseum thereafter
